RADIO PAKISTAN IN RESPECT OF DIGITIZATION AND MODERNIZATION OF STUDIOS AND F.M. NETWORK
Ø A bilingual website in Urdu and English languages has been developed and launched by the PBC IT staff at http://www.radio.gov.pk
Ø The PBC’s website has been connected to social networks like YouTube, twitter and facebook etc.
Ø Presently, a total number of 15 channels are being live-streamed which include 5 permanent channels and 10 channels on time-sharing basis. The permanent channels are National Broadcasting Service, FM-93 Islamabad, FM-101 Islamabad, FM-94 Islamabad and PBC Mirpur whereas the time-sharing channels include PBC Hyderabad, PBC Larkana, PBC Khairpur, PBC Bahawalpur, PBC Multan, World Service, FM-93 Karachi, FM-101 Lahore Peshawar and FM-101 Quetta.
Ø In addition, the breaking news, headlines, exclusive interviews, news bulletins in audio and text format, sports and weather reports are also available on websites.
Ø The video streaming on PBC’s website has also been carried out on special occasions and it will be a permanent feature in near future. A video studio is being setup for this purpose at National Broadcasting House Islamabad.
Ø FTP (File Transfer Protocol) service for all PBC Stations has been made available for the transfer of audio files and other data which has reduced the cost and time.
Ø A computer based Digital Central Audio Library carrying search facility has been established and connected to all studios of National Broadcasting House, Islamabad.
Ø Computer based Management Information System (MIS) implemented in PBC Headquarters for efficient and economical administration.
Ø Computer based Apex Integrated Management Solution implemented in the News Section for news production and editing.
Ø Provision of computerized audio recording and editing facilities to the Radio Stations.
Ø Up-gradation and replacement of existing 10KW Medium Wave transmitter at PBC Larkana with modern 100KW MW transmitter is in progress.
Ø Aging transmitter of PBC Hyderabad under replacement with modern 100KW MW transmitter.
Ø Aging transmitter of Multan under replacement with modern 100KW MW transmitter.
Ø Up-gradation from 100KW MW to 400KW MW transmitter at PBC Peshawar under US-Aid programme is in the final stage of completion.
Ø Up-gradation from 10KW MW to 100KW MW transmitter at PBC D.I. Khan under US-Aid programme is in the final stage of completion.
Ø Establishment of 100KW MW Transmitting Station and Broadcasting House at Turbat.
Ø Establishment of FM Radio Station at Bhitt Shah Sindh.
Ø 100 KW Short Wave transmitter put on air from Islamabad for the coverage of Azad & Indian held Kashmir.
Ø Establishment of largest FM-93 network of Pakistan comprising 22 stations at PBC Karachi, Hyderabad, Khairpur, Mitthi, Bhitt Shah, Larkana, Gawader, Multan, Faisalabad, Mianwali, Sargodha, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Mirpur, Muzaffarabad (AJK), Islamabad, Abbottabad, Bannu, Kohat, D.I. Khan, Chitral and Gilgit since 2008.
Ø The first English Channel of PBC namely Planet FM-94 was launched from Islamabad & Karachi.
Ø Converting Home Stations to community stations and change in language policy (70% Programmes in Local / Regional Language and 30% in Urdu).
Ø PBC conducted 8 hours long video telecast on its website LIVE from Ghari Khuda Bakhsh on the event of 3rd death anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto 27-12-2011.
Ø All Stations linked with SMS and live phone interaction.
Ø Prime Minister’s monthly Radio address during 2010 but discontinued.
Ø Weekly Minister Information’s live one hour programme in 2010.
Ø Launching of Radio Khabarnama of one hour duration from 17th January 2011.
Ø Prime Minster of Pakistan on 8th February, 2011 inaugurated first Saraiki News Bulletins.
Ø First live voice over of President’s Speech by Director General, PBC and Broadcast of President’s speech in 33 languages.
Ø Digitization of all Speeches, Interviews of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and other important personalities.
Ø First state of the art – digital, music recording studio plus production house at a minimum cost by PBC engineers.
Ø PBC launched fund raising movement for IDPs and collected Rs. 6.5 million.
Ø Two months long special Flood Marathon Transmission to help flood victims of 2010 and PBC contributed over Rs. 4.5 million to PM’s flood relief fund.
Ø Launched South Asia Broadcast Service adding three new international languages (Tamil, Sinhali, Nepali).
Ø VOA programmes are broadcast for 1 hour daily in morning & evening transmission of selected FM-93 stations and is earning Rs. 40 million per annum.
Ø PBC signed an agreement with China Radio International (CRI) for 2 hours broadcast from 5 FM stations Islamabad, Multan, Kohat, Lahore and Karachi in English and Urdu languages and is getting Rs. 20 million per annum.
Ø Two months long special Flood Transmission for Sindh Rain / Flood Affectees during September and October, 2011.
Ø For the capacity building of Radio journalists and engineers, training courses were held in Islamabad with the collaboration of Deutsche Welle (Radio Germany), AIBD (Asia Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development) and CBA (Common Wealth Broadcasting Association) during 2010 and 2011.
Ø To facilitate listeners of Radio Pakistan in USA, a special telephone number of Taxes (8322800683) has been obtained by PBC free of cost by dialing which a person can listen the programmes of Radio Pakistan on his mobile phone.
Ø A letter of intent has been issued by the USAID in 2011 for funding of the project, titled “Digitalization of Audio Archives of PBC” at an estimated cost of $1.250 million. The project is in the planning stage.
Ø Japanese Government has been requested through JICA for grant aid for the replacement of the existing old and obsolete 1000KW Medium wave transmitter installed at HPT Faqeerabad with a new 500 KW Medium wave transmitter based on the most modern digital technology and revamping of Master Control Room / Studios at National Broadcasting House, Islamabad.
